Blankets and Grandkids...

Wow, it's been awhile, been so busy watching grandkids and can't believe it's the end of May already.  So as I'm watching my grandkids grow so fast it's just a reminder to treasure your kids and your grandkids and don't put off doing this or that you wanted to do. The youngest just turned 2 and looks just like my son, seems like he was just born, it was just around the corner my son was a kid. Now he's talking up a storm and his personality is really coming out. Another one just turned 11 last week, seems like he was just a baby, he's as big as me now.

My daughter and her husband are having my son's kids over for the weekend, they're all so excited. They were buying a slip n slide, water balloons and other fun things for them to do and the kids will remember those times with their Aunt always. It's a wonderful thing to do, gives them all good memories, gives my son and daughter in law time together. I love that they do that for one another. I've always talked to them about the importance of taking the time for one another, so glad they listened.

I've been working on blankets, not just afghans, but blankets, and they take longer, because they need to be heavier without all the holes. I first made one using Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool Yarn, not cheap and the 100% wool in that brand is the Natural color, there's alot of yarn on there, makes a wonderful heavy blanket. It's single crochet all the way. Use coupons or get it when it's on sale, because it can be pricey. It was well worth it, but now when I have to wash it I can't put it in the dryer, that's going to be interesting to dry.

The other one I'm working on is using a sc, dc, sc, dc pattern. Basically you make a chain the length you want, I made some rows in just sc, then I started a row with the pattern, sc, dc, sc, dc etc across the row. The next row will be dc, sc, dc, sc, across with that pattern. I have 179 stitches across. I'm making it in limelight by Caron Simply Soft, it takes quite a bit of yarn, but it will make a good little throw blanket.

I've found this site a long time ago, and alot of good old patterns. It will keep you busy opening up each pdf, but well worth it.  http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/html/warm/crochet.htm
